Black History Month Essay Contest

Winners from each category will receive a prize:
Elementary, Middle and High School

Content: Choose an African American figure from the “Church Street Mural,” and elaborate on their contribution to the city of Salisbury. Give background information such as their date of birth, their life experiences from childhood to adulthood and speak on how their efforts have impacted your life. (Elaine Brown,
Dr. Charles Chipman, James F. Stewart, William Butler and Dr. Herbert Sembly)

Bonus: Add additional information about the significance of the Chipman Cultural Center and the neighborhood surrounding the mural (Georgetown). You can also add information on the times of segregation in Salisbury.
